Water Memory showcases the captivating gifts of three artists; Lesley Asare, Enam Bosokah, and Kissiwaa (Priscilla Owusu-Mensah).
using poetry to create depth and dimension, this exhibition explores trauma, rebirth, awareness, awakening, ancestral heritage, healing, consciousness, and identity, in light of the happenings of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, the rollover into colonialism and the current disconnect of self as an experience for black people in neo-colonialism.
these works honour the profound significance of water for Africans, both on the continent and across the diaspora. presented in its three forms—solid, liquid, and gas—water in this exhibition is revered not only as the substance that makes up 70% of the human body and covers 71% of the Earth’s surface, but also as a medium scientifically believed to store memories. beyond its physical properties, water is seen as a powerful element that connects the visible and invisible realms. Water Memory is a ritual that calls upon the forces of nature, signaling readiness to unearth the actions of the past, and pave way for a more hopeful future.
